Terms that keep things clear and grounded as you participate.

These Terms of Use explain the ground rules for using Truth Takes — how accounts work, what you may post, and how we moderate and operate the platform.

1) Agreement to these Terms

These Terms of Use ("Terms") are a binding agreement governing your access to and use of Truth Takesand its websites, applications, features, content, communications, and related services (the "Services"). By accessing or using the Services, creating an account, or submitting content, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy.

If you do not agree, do not use the Services. If you use the Services on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.

2) What Truth Takes is

Truth Takes is a curated platform for Scripture-anchored commentary, writing, reading, and discussion. We aim for clarity, careful handling of facts, and a tone that prefers light over heat. We are not a church and are not a replacement for Scripture, the local church, pastoral counsel, or qualified professional advice.

The Services may include editorial, moderation, discovery, sharing, notification, AI-assisted authoring and review, and other features. We may add, modify, limit, suspend, or discontinue features or portions of the Services as the platform develops.

3) Eligibility & accounts

You may use public portions of the Services without an account. Certain features require an account. You must be at least 13 years old to create or use an account. If the law where you live requires parental or guardian consent for a minor to use an online service, you may use an account only with that consent.

  • Provide accurate information and keep account information reasonably current.
  • Protect your login credentials and promptly notify us if you believe your account has been compromised.
  • You are responsible for activity conducted through your account to the extent permitted by law.
  • Do not sell, transfer, impersonate, or share accounts to evade safeguards, restrictions, rate limits, or moderation decisions.
  • We may refuse registration, require verification, limit features, suspend, or terminate accounts when reasonably necessary to enforce these Terms, comply with law, address security or abuse, or protect the Services or others.

4) Acceptable use

You may not use the Services to:

  • Violate applicable law, regulation, court order, or the legal rights of another person.
  • Post unlawful, defamatory, fraudulent, threatening, harassing, hateful, exploitative, or privacy-invasive material, or content that unlawfully incites violence.
  • Dox, stalk, threaten, exploit, or publish another person's sensitive personal information without lawful authority.
  • Infringe or misappropriate copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, confidentiality, or other rights.
  • Impersonate another person or entity or materially misrepresent your identity, affiliation, credentials, or the source of content.
  • Send spam, scams, deceptive promotions, malware, malicious code, or deceptive links.
  • Gain or attempt unauthorized access to systems, accounts, data, credentials, or non-public portions of the Services.
  • Interfere with, overload, probe, scan, reverse engineer where prohibited by law, circumvent, or defeat security, authentication, moderation, access, or rate-limit controls.
  • Use bots, crawlers, scrapers, or automated means to harvest, copy, index, or bulk collect content or user data without our prior permission, except ordinary search-engine indexing that we permit.
  • Use information obtained from the Services to build profiles of users, facilitate unwanted contact, or otherwise misuse personal information.
  • Use the Services in a way that materially disrupts their operation or another person's use of them.

5) Community & contributor expectations

Truth Takes is intentionally curated. Contributors and commenters are expected to engage respectfully, distinguish fact from opinion, handle sources and Scripture honestly, and avoid misleading framing.

You are responsible for the factual assertions, quotations, citations, permissions, attributions, and disclosures in content you submit. If you discuss, recommend, endorse, or criticize a product, service, organization, person, or cause and have a financial, employment, family, personal, sponsorship, free-product, affiliate, or other material relationship that could affect how readers evaluate what you say, you are responsible for making any disclosure required by applicable law clearly and conspicuously.

6) User Content, ownership & license

Takes, drafts, comments, profile information, submissions, images, links, and other material you submit or make available through the Services are "User Content." As between you and us, you retain ownership of your User Content and remain responsible for it.

By submitting User Content, you represent and warrant that:

  • You own it or have all rights, licenses, consents, and permissions necessary to submit it and grant the license below.
  • Its submission and our permitted use will not violate another person's intellectual-property, privacy, publicity, contractual, confidentiality, or other rights.
  • It complies with these Terms and applicable law and is not knowingly fraudulent or materially deceptive.

By submitting User Content, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable, and sublicensable license to host, store, reproduce, cache, format, adapt, edit, translate where needed for a feature, create excerpts, previews and other derivative presentations, display, perform, publish, distribute, transmit, and otherwise use that User Content as reasonably necessary to operate, provide, moderate, secure, promote, and improve the Services. This includes displaying content in feeds and search, generating thumbnails or excerpts, delivering newsletters and notifications, sharing content at a user's direction, and presenting the Services on our own promotional channels.

This license does not transfer ownership to us. For content you delete or remove, the license ends when the content is deleted from our active systems except to the extent continued use or retention is reasonably necessary for backups, security, legal compliance, moderation or revision records, resolving disputes, enforcing these Terms, or honoring distributions or uses initiated before deletion. Public copies made by others may remain outside our control.

Feedback, ideas, or suggestions you voluntarily provide about the Services may be used by us without restriction or compensation, provided we do not identify you publicly as the source without permission.

7) Public content & interactions

Published takes, comments, public profile information, reactions, and other features may be public by design. Public material may be viewed, indexed, quoted, linked, copied, captured, or redistributed by others. Do not publish information you are not comfortable making public.

Removal from Truth Takes cannot guarantee removal of copies, search results, archives, screenshots, embeds, messages, or other distributions controlled by third parties.

8) Editorial discretion, moderation & enforcement

Truth Takes is a curated platform, not an open publishing utility. To the extent permitted by law, we may review, screen, moderate, fact-check, request revisions to, edit, format, label, restrict visibility of, decline to publish, unpublish, preserve, restore, or remove User Content, and may limit interactions or accounts. We may do so when content violates these Terms or our guidelines, creates legal or security risk, contains spam or abuse, does not fit the platform's editorial purpose, or for other legitimate operational or editorial reasons.

We may use automated systems and human review to assist moderation and editorial workflows. We do not undertake a duty to monitor every item, verify every factual statement, identify every violation, or preserve every submission. Moderation decisions and automated systems can make mistakes. Where we provide a review, appeal, correction, or contact mechanism, it does not create an obligation to reach a particular result.

9) AI-assisted features

The Services may offer AI-assisted features for tasks such as polishing or formatting writing, suggesting titles or summaries, reviewing theology, Scripture references, tone or potential concerns, and assisting moderation. These tools are aids, not authorities.

AI-generated or AI-assisted output may be inaccurate, incomplete, misleading, inconsistent, or unsuitable for your purpose. It may miss relevant context or produce similar output for different users. You are responsible for reviewing and deciding whether to use, edit, publish, or rely on any output. A theology or content review is not a guarantee of doctrinal correctness, factual accuracy, safety, legal compliance, or acceptance for publication.

Do not use AI-assisted features to submit material you do not have the right to provide, and do not rely on them as a substitute for qualified legal, medical, financial, pastoral, or other professional judgment. Processing of content by AI service providers is described in our Privacy Policy.

11) Third-party content, links, embeds & services

The Services may display, link to, embed, communicate with, or depend on third-party websites, media, platforms, APIs, infrastructure, or services. We do not control third-party content, availability, security, accuracy, policies, or practices and do not endorse a third party merely by linking to or embedding it. Your use of third-party services may be governed by their own terms and privacy policies.

We are not responsible for losses caused by a third party's acts, omissions, content, service interruption, account action, data practices, or changes to functionality, except to the extent responsibility cannot lawfully be excluded.

12) Truth Takes intellectual property

Except for User Content and third-party material, the Services and their software, design, organization, branding, logos, graphics, interfaces, and original content are owned by or licensed to us and protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable right to access and use the Services for their intended purpose.

You may not reproduce, sell, license, distribute, modify, create derivative works from, publicly exploit, or commercially use our protected materials except as expressly permitted by us or applicable law. No rights are granted by implication.

13) Service availability, changes & preservation

We do not guarantee that the Services or any particular feature, content, account, draft, notification, integration, link, embed, or data will always be available, uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or preserved. Maintenance, technical failures, third-party outages, security events, product changes, or other circumstances may interrupt or change the Services.

You are responsible for keeping copies of User Content or other information you cannot afford to lose. We may establish or change reasonable usage, storage, technical, or feature limits.

14) Disclaimers

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE SERVICES ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY. WE DISCLAIM IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND ANY WARRANTIES ARISING FROM COURSE OF DEALING OR USAGE OF TRADE.

We do not warrant that content is accurate, complete, current, reliable, error-free, doctrinally correct, suitable for a particular purpose, or that defects will be corrected. Current-events information, external sources, links, and embedded material can change after publication. Opinions in User Content belong to their authors and do not necessarily represent Truth Takes.

Content is provided for general informational, commentary, discussion, and discipleship purposes. Nothing on the Services creates an attorney-client, doctor-patient, financial-adviser, pastor-congregant, fiduciary, or other professional relationship. The Services are not individualized legal, medical, mental-health, financial, tax, investment, emergency, or pastoral advice.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty exclusions, so some of these exclusions may not apply to you.

15) Limitation of liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, TRUTH TAKES AND ITS OWNERS, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, CONTRACTORS, CONTRIBUTORS ACTING ON ITS BEHALF, AFFILIATES, AGENTS, AND SERVICE PROVIDERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, EXEMPLARY, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES; LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, GOODWILL, USE, DATA, OR CONTENT; OR DAMAGES ARISING FROM SERVICE INTERRUPTION, LOSS OR CORRUPTION OF DATA, UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS, THIRD-PARTY CONDUCT OR CONTENT, RELIANCE ON CONTENT, OR INABILITY TO ACCESS OR USE THE SERVICES, REGARDLESS OF THE THEORY OF LIABILITY AND EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICES OR THESE TERMS WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID DIRECTLY TO TRUTH TAKES FOR THE SERVICES DURING THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM OR (B) $100.

These limitations do not exclude liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some provisions may not apply to you.

16) Indemnification

To the fullest extent permitted by law, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Truth Takes and its owners, officers, directors, employees, contractors, affiliates, agents, and service providers from claims, demands, actions, liabilities, damages, judgments, settlements, losses, costs, and expenses, including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising out of or related to your User Content, your use or misuse of the Services, your violation of these Terms or applicable law, your infringement or violation of another person's rights, or your fraud, willful misconduct, or material misrepresentation.

We reserve the right, at your expense where permitted by law, to assume the exclusive defense and control of a matter subject to indemnification, and you agree to reasonably cooperate with that defense. You may not settle a claim in a way that imposes liability or obligations on us without our written consent.

17) Suspension, termination & account closure

You may stop using the Services at any time and may use available account controls or contact us regarding account closure. We may suspend, restrict, or terminate access when we reasonably believe it is necessary because of a Terms or guideline violation, fraud or abuse, security risk, legal requirement, harm to the Services or others, or discontinuation of a feature or the Services.

Termination does not automatically require us to remove public User Content or records that we are permitted or required to retain. Our Privacy Policy explains retention practices. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination—including ownership provisions, licenses needed for retained material, disclaimers, liability limitations, indemnification, dispute provisions, and accrued rights—will survive.

18) Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as the Services, law, or our practices change. We will update the "Last updated" date and, when appropriate or legally required, provide additional notice. Changes apply prospectively from their effective date unless law permits otherwise.

If you continue using the Services after revised Terms become effective, you agree to the revised Terms to the extent permitted by law. If you do not agree to a material change, you should stop using the Services.

19) Governing law & venue

These Terms and disputes arising out of or relating to them or the Services are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except to the extent federal law controls. Subject to any applicable law that gives you a non-waivable right to bring a claim elsewhere, you and Truth Takes consent to the exclusive jurisdiction and venue of the state and federal courts located in Wake County, North Carolina, for disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Services.

Nothing in these Terms prevents either party from seeking appropriate temporary or injunctive relief where available, and nothing waives rights or remedies that cannot lawfully be waived.

20) General terms

These Terms, together with policies expressly incorporated by reference, constitute the agreement between you and us concerning the Services. If a provision is found unenforceable, it will be enforced to the maximum extent permitted and the remaining provisions will remain in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign or transfer your rights or obligations under these Terms without our prior written consent; we may assign these Terms in connection with a reorganization, merger, acquisition, sale of assets, or by operation of law.

Headings are for convenience only. The words "including" and "includes" mean "including without limitation." Nothing in these Terms creates a partnership, joint venture, employment, agency, fiduciary, or franchise relationship between you and Truth Takes.
